Bill of Materials (BOM)

The Bill of Materials (BOM) is a list of all the parts used in a model. It's also known as a parts inventory.

A Bill of Materials is found at the end of most LEGO® instruction manuals. You can add one to your design's instructions in Studio, too!

Adding a BOM

To add a BOM to your instructions:

1. Insert a new page in your instructions by clicking on <+> at the top of the Navigator.
   
   
2. Click on the + Insert button.
   
   
3. Click on Bill of Materials.
   
4. The BOM will be added to the current page.

BOM settings

Clicking on the BOM will display the settings on the right panel. 

A. Layout: Set if parts are presented in rows or in columns.

B. Order: How the parts are sorted in the BOM.

C. Background: The color of the page background behind the parts.

D. Border: The color and size of the border around each section and each page of the BOM.

E. Part size: The zoom level applied to the parts. It applies to all parts in all sections of the BOM. Parts wider than 16 studs can be scaled differently to fit on the same page as smaller parts or added to separate pages. 

F. Identification: The information shown below the part images. Options include:

1. • BL part ID & color code
   • BL part ID & color name
   • Element ID (the internal LEGO Group code that combines ID and color)
   • Part quantity only

G. Font settings: The font, size, and color of the part quantity and identification.

H. Padding: The padding between the parts and the border of the BOM.

I. Spacing: The spacing between parts on the page.
