Choosing and placing a part
To choose a part from a building palette, you can try two options below:
- Click on a part in a building palette to have it show under the mouse pointer
- Move the mouse pointer to the Viewport
- Click the left mouse button or press Space on your keyboard to place the part where you want it
- Grab and drag a part to the Viewport
- Release the mouse button to place the part
The part follows your mouse pointer when you move it around and will move based on your current Grid. If Snap and Collision are on, Studio tries to place a part in a valid, connected, position. If Snap is off, a part can be placed anywhere, regardless of connections. With collision off, you can place parts inside other parts. If you haven’t added any parts to your design yet, or if they aren’t close enough to the part you want to place, the part will be placed on the virtual Ground.
Canceling placement of a selected part
To cancel placing a new part, right-click your mouse, or hit Esc. on the keyboard. The part you were about to place will disappear from under the mouse pointer.
Rotating a part
When you’re trying to place a part, you may need to turn it so it’s in a better position. To rotate a part, use the arrow keys (→ ← ↑ ↓ ) to rotate it by 90° or use Shift and an arrow key (→ ← ↑ ↓) to turn it by 45°. To rotate it with even more precision, or if it is already connected, use the Hinge & Rotation Tool.
Deleting parts
To delete parts from the model, select the parts you want to remove and hit Delete or Backspace on your keyboard or select them, right-click and then pick Delete. For more info about how to select parts, read the Selection tool article.
- Once you’ve placed a part in your design, another one appears under the mouse pointer, ready to be placed right away by default. You can turn off this feature by opening Edit | Preferences | General in the menu bar and unchecking Repeat inserting a selected brick.
- You can pick parts from the Recently Used Parts panel to access them more quickly.
