Although most parts in Studio can't be modified beyond changing their color, there are some special parts that can be posed. For example, most minifigure legs and torso assemblies are posable.
To check if a part is posable in Studio, look for the angle-shaped Pose tool icon when you select a part. These posable parts act like submodels since they're actually made from several smaller pieces in real life, and aren't singular molds like other LEGO® bricks.
If you’re using Studio Version 2.24.2_4 or earlier, please see the dedicated section below about using the older versions of these functions.
Posing a minifigure
To pose a minifigure:
- Select the part you want to pose. If it's posable, the Pose tool icon will appear.
- Click on the Pose icon. This opens the part to edit it as if it were a submodel.
- You'll see the Hinge icon at points where the part can be posed.
- Click the Hinge icon to rotate the part.
-
Rotate the parts that compose the posable part.
You can even recolor some parts in the "submodel", or remove and add parts. However, please note that for instructions and Wanted List purposes, editing the part won’t change the part ID and name. - Double-click anywhere in the viewport when finished (except on the posable part).
As with submodels, only the posable part is modified. The parts that it connects to in the upper model are not moved or rotated with it. For example, if you pose a Hinge Plate 1x4 Swivel (2429c01), posing won’t hinge the parts the Hinge Plate is connected to. It will only change the angle of the Hinge Plate itself.
Studio Version 2.24.2_4 and earlier
There’s no obvious indication that a part is posable. The only way to know is to look for the angle-shaped Pose tool icon when you select a part. Most minifig legs or torso assemblies are posable.
Posing a minifig
- Select a part
- Hover over the hand-shaped icon, it changes into three icons (rotate, translate, and pose):
- Click on the angle-shaped icon on the right
- This opens the part to edit it as if it were a submodel.
- Move and rotate the parts that compose the posable part
You may even recolor some parts, or remove or add parts. Beware that for instructions and wanted list purposes, that won’t change the part ID and name. - Double-click in the viewport, anywhere but on the composing parts, when finished.
As with submodels, only the posable part is modified. The parts that it connects to in the upper model are not moved or rotated with it. For instance, if you pose the part Hinge Plate 1x4 Swivel…, it won’t hinge the parts it’s connected to, it will only change the angle of the Hinge Plate.
